The New York Giants will be headed out to Maryland to play the Skins at FedEx Field. This rivalry is one of the biggest and oldest rivalries in the game. The rivalry began when the Skins became an official team in 1932. Both of these teams use to have great coaches who are both gone now in Joe Gibbs and Bill Parcells. Joe Gibbs was the coach for the Skins and led them to all three of their Super bowl victories. While Parcells led the giants to two Super Bowl wins. Probably the most historic play to date of these two teams was when Lawrence Taylor broke Super Bowl winning Joe Theismann’s leg and ended his career.
Last time these two teams met was last year in their final meeting of the season, when the Giants beat the Redskins 17-14. The last time the Redskins won a game against the Giants was back in 2007. Ever since that last Redskins win, the Giants have won their last six meetings. The NFC east might be the toughest divison in football winning 11 Super Bowls. Every game against a team in your Division is always twice important. Both teams last year failed to make the playoffs. With all the hype around Philadelphia this season, these teams are going to have to fight for every point if they want a fast break in this race to the playoffs.
John Beck is the likely starter for the Washington Redskins after they sent Donovan McNabb packing. The Redskins will have a new look offense this season without their RB mainstay Clinton Portis in the backfield this season. The Giants will be playing without some of their key players like Osi Umenyiora, Prince Amukamara, and Clint Sintim. Both teams have a lot to prove week 1 of this NFL season. Eli vs. Beck. Coughlin vs. Shanahan. Who will win?
